Don’t be scared to use social media.

December 15, 2009

One of the repetitive aspects of my job is to convince people to put themselves and their brand on social network sites. They worry about showing a company’s blemishes, or being held liable. While the latter is true to an extent, it’s expected to be honest and transparent in your motives these days. Being held accountable will also make your company better in the long run anyway. You are trying to build a community, and a relationship, with your customers.

They don’t want to be sold to, they want truth, entertainment, and the feeling of being important. If you are a good company with a solid product than this era of marketing will treat you well. Don’t be scared to lose control of your brand. You will find that it works better in your customers hands anyway. Once they trust your brand, they will bring their friends into your community.
