I was doing some spring cleaning this weekend and I came across some old DVDs that I wish were real. Oh, how I torment myself. I created these DVD covers for The Outer Limits as part of an early student project at Portfolio Center.
The student project was to take an artist, create a book about the artist, and create a product using the artist’s work. I chose my hero, the king of the dodge and burn, the grandfather of photoshop, Jerry Uelsmann.
My vision for the project was to use the surreal images of Jerry Uelsmann to visually represent the The Outer Limits. I believe that they work really well together. (The book project I did was titled Dreamscapes, and was about Carl Jung’s dream analysis transposed with Uelsmann’s images.)
I don’t remember my entire critique but one key piece I was lacking was a box to contain this set. If I was to design the covers again I would love to explore different illustration concepts with wild type treatments. The only other problem with the DVDs is that they are empty. Thank god for Hulu.
