This summer all I am looking forward to is sitting around a campfire with a bunch of friends drinking, eating, and playing guitar. In anticipation for impromptu jam sessions after BBQ’s and endless summer climbing days, I have decided to upgrade my folder of song chords to a BINDER of song chords.
Listed below are the songs I currently have in my chord binder. Some songs I know well, other songs I am not sure why I have the chords for in the first place, but I will take their word for it. People that I may be jamming with this summer please take note, I can play these songs on guitar, otherwise put me on the washboard or recorder.
Wagon Wheel – Old Crow Medicine Show | Crazy Mary – Pearl Jam | When You Come Back Down – Nickel Creek | 40 Miles From Denver – Yonder Mountain String Band | Mothers Only Son – Yonder Mountain String Band | Wavin Flag – Knaan | Flume – Bon Iver | The Gardner – The Tallest Man On Earth | Cocaine Blues – Johnny Cash | You Cant Always Get What You Want – The Rolling Stones | Kids – MGMT | I and Love and You – The Avett Brothers | Die Die Die – The Avett Brothers | If It’s The Beaches – The Avett Brothers | When I Drink – The Avett Brothers | When Your Mind’s Made Up – The Swell Season | Falling Slowly – The Swell Season | In The Curve – The Avett Brothers | Go To Sleep – The Avett Brothers | Shame – The Avett Brothers | Lord – Langhorne Slim | New York to California – Mat Kearney | Empty – Ray LaMontagne | Evangeline – The Band
I am hoping that with the amount of audio and video recording equipment floating around my social circles these days, we will be able to put together an improv album. I won’t make the mistake again** of letting a potentially epic jam session go unrecorded.
** This is a reference to The Greatest Jam Session Of All Time which went down at Man Camp in Lander, Wyoming on the last good climbing day of 2009. Members of the jam session include: Nathan, John, Brian H., and Michael S., and James W. Songs played include: Why Don’t We Do It In The Road, My Clothes Are Too Small On Me, Three Weeks Til Christmas Day, Have You Ever Been To Cleveland Town.
