Since 4/20/2010 there has been 200,000 gallons of oil leaking 5,000 feet under the Gulf of Mexico and the environmental effects of this leak are going to be horrible. This is just another example of the importance of this country and the world as a whole to stop relying on oil and move into a new era.
Renewistan is a concept of an alternative carbon neutral energy system that changes the system and instead of relying on fossil fuels the entire system is developed around renewable energy systems such as solar, and wind. The importance of stabilizing our CO2 levels at 450ppm in 25 years is important and can only be achieved by changing our energy system. Renewable energy will be the key stabilizing our CO2 levels and slowing global warming.

This is not the first destructive event that has happen in the past 20 years. The Exxon valdez oil spill in Alaska in 1989 leaked 11 million gallons of oil on the coast of Alaska. Although the oil spill in the Gulf is has not approached this amount it could become even worse than the Exxon Valdez if this is not stopped. This is the time for environmentalist around this country to take action and encourage our government to not expand off shore drilling in the Gulf.

What a great couple days it has been since ending my internship on Wednesday. It was weird to think that tomorrow I am heading back to the east coast after being out here since May 21st. Looking back to the past couple months that I have been out here I have really had some amazing experiences and some memories that I will definitely remember. Being able to get as much climbing as I did this summer was a really big deal for me. It had been a couple years since I really was able to climb that much every since my accident climbing in GA a couple years back. Successfully climbing the Grand Teton was definitely one of biggest highlights of my trip out here because it was something that I promised myself i would do 7 years ago. Making it to the top with my brother made the experience that much greater as having William to share the experience with made the whole experience that much more meaningful.
On Thursday Will and I hiked back up Fairfield Hill after he finished work. That is such a great hike and definitely will give you a workout. The views of the waterfall and the Winds in the distance are great and you usually wont see anyone else up there which gives you sometime away from real world. It was a great hike and was also my one in Wyoming for the summer.Friday night was low key and nothing went on. Besides us going to Asian Cuisine for dinner we didn’t do much.
Saturday Will,Brian,Liz and I went to Fremont Canyon to do some crack climbing. It was such a great climbing area with sweet views and endless rock to climb. I had not crack climbed for years and I forgot how fun and difficult it was. It is different from slap climbing and requires uses different techniques that aren’t really used with face climbing. We spend 8 hours climbing there and really enjoyed ourselves being out in the canyon and climbing.
Sunday Will and I really kept it low key. Will made pasta with bison and homemade tomato sauce. It was a great dinner and definitely one of the best he has made this summer. I am all packed and ready to head back to Atlanta tomorrow. I am excited to go back home but will definitely miss living here and being with my brother but it is time to head back to Vermont. This summer has been so memorable and the experiences that I have had with Creative Energies and with William will continue to influence me as my life continues to unfold

Looking back when I started this internship in May until now I can say that I definitely have a better understanding of renewable energy systems and how to properly install and work with them. This experience has been one that I will never forget and know that throughout my career after college I will continue to relate too my experiences at Creative Energies. Being that this is my final day I have been looking at all the pictures and documents that I have made and it is very obvious that I have really grasped how these systems function and am even more passionate about renewable energy now than I was before the internship. I have first hand experience working with these different systems, which was one of my goals during the internship and by working on 20 projects I feel that I am knowledgeable about these different systems and how they work. The next step is to complete my thesis which I plan to have done by the end of December. This internship was exactly what I expected and it has given me all the information I need to complete my thesis and also have a thesis that stands out from the rest.

I continued gathering all the information in regards to the electric truck and tried to make it easy for anyone to understand what needs to be done with the truck at this point. I placed all the fastensers in plastic bags and labeled them to make it easier for Toby and everyone else to figure out what goes where. I also made a spreadsheet that included all the contact information and the remaining tracking numbers that still needed to be check. I feel that the trasition over to Toby should go smoothly and there wont be any problems that they should run into.
I also made a complete list of all the jobs I worked on in the field and in the office. It was a surprise to see how many jobs I was involved in which in total was 20. I guess I didn’t really pay attention to how many I did because it wasnt important to me as long as I had the chance to be out in the field. Most of the people at the office are at the Pioneer Senior Center completing the wiring which is the last thing that needs to be done before the system can be up and running.
