Social Media

I’ve spent some time recently trying to concept ways to get people outdoors or outside using Foursquare. Here are some of my thoughts:

I am bummed that I wasn’t able to attend the #guerillapanel social media event/discussion at the winter Outdoor Retailer conference. This is the second time I have seen footage from this conference, and I now realize I need to be there to build relationships and engage with other social media folks in the outdoor industry.

With a small budgets, a local customer base, and a knowledge that you can’t beat the bigger competitor, it’s almost a no-brainer that you should be utilizing the social web. You aren’t even getting the short end of the stick here, it’s some of the best marketing you can do! (Although you do need to be creative and honest, which can be tough.) That is why it is so amazing to me that more small businesses are not on Twitter, and do not have a Facebook page yet.

It was great to sign on to my computer today and see that our facebook page has reached 7000 fans. For over a year we have been posting stories, recipes, pictures, and videos, interacting with the NOLS community, and answering questions from prospective students.
